Welcome to Crystal Lake

Confessions of a Cosplayer: Cody Huskins

Welcome to another installment of “Confessions of a Cosplayer”. Each week I will feature a cosplayer in the Friday franchise who I either know personally or through social media. As time moves on, I will also be focusing on other iconic horror characters from other franchises then I will have horror inspired cosplayers.
If you are a cosplayer or know someone who is a cosplayer and would like to be featured on a weekly spotlight please reach out to me on Facebook, Instagram or send me an email at SouthJerseyJason@gmail.com

When I first saw this cosplayer on social media it was a video of Jason walking in a gym and I thought to myself “wow, he is huge and who is he?” I did some research and fond more pictures of him and I was amazed at not only his size but his detailed work on his New Blood Costume. Not only did he look like he came straight out of the celluloid of a VHS, he could be Kane Hodder’s stunt double. Shortly after that, he released pictures of his latest version of Jason Goes to Hell which caused some buzz on Social Media. At the time this article was written, it was revealed that Cody would be playing Jason in the forthcoming Friday the 13th/A Nightmare on Elm Street fan film-
Freddy vs. Jason: Dreamscape

What is your first memory of watching a Friday the 13th movie?
Watching USA up all night when they use to show the marathons when I was a kid.

What is your favorite Friday the 13th movie?
Probably part 7 the New Blood

What made you get into the art of cosplaying (how old were you? Where did you first show off your cosplay, do you design your own clothing, hood, hockey mask etc.?  If not, who do you use to help with your costume?)
It was in 2011 when I first was Jason from Jason Goes to Hell. It was all hand made. I entered a costume contest that night for Halloween.

How many versions of Jason costumes do you have?  Do you have plans to showcase more costumes?
Parts 2,3,6,7,8,9 and NES Jason. Yes, I’m remastering my part 7 and doing a 4 and Savani Jason later this year.

Do you attend conventions?  If so which ones do you attend?  Are there any you recommend for someone who has never attended?  What advice would you give to someone who has never attended a convention as a cosplayer?
Yes, I’m a regular guest every year at Creepy Con in Knoxville TN. It’s in August and I’m usually at Mad Monster Party in Charlotte every year but I didn’t attend this year. I would just say to people hit the ones closest to you. Even if it’s a smaller Con. I’d just tell those who’ve never been is just go and have fun. Take it all in and trust me you’ll be bitten by the bug like I was with my first one.

What advice would you give to a first time cosplayer?
Take your time and get to know everyone that does different costumes and go with the artist you like the best. I make most of my stuff but I love it and being an artist is what I love to do also.

Who are some of your favorite cosplayers that you follow on social media or personally know?
I like Gallow Goes to Hell and Frankie the 13th. There are so many and they all do a good job.

Do you have any social media accounts for your cosplay that you would like to promote?
Yes, I have an Instagram account @Huskinsxiii On Facebook you can find me on my personal page at Cody Huskins, Man Behind the Mask Cosplay and Huskins Horror Studios.
